Update on Becks’ Injury

Beckham Sprained Knee

Mr. Lalas has finally grown some balls and is following what clubs in Europe do with there injured players.  He is not going to let Beckham play until he is 100% regardless of what Becks says.  Major clubs in Europe will not play a player unless he is 100% healthy regardless of who the player is.

“Just because David says he is healthy, that does not mean he is healthy.  When we are confident that he is 100 per cent, physically and mentally, at that time we will see him on the field and not before.” said Lalas.

Well Mr. Lalas follow the recommended injury time for a sprained knee, located on the right side of this page, and you will have Mr. Beckham good to go.

Klinsmann Hails Beckham’s Presence
Posted on 09.25.07 by admin @ 11:22 am

 Jurgen Klinsmann

Jurgen Klinsmann, the coach of the German 2006 World Cup Team and soccer legend, praised the impact of David Beckham in the United States.  “It caused a stir with the kids and with youths even though the people weren’t really sure about the level of play in his club or in the league” said Klinsmann.  He also said that Becks has had the desired ‘big bang’ effect on American soccer.  Klinsmann, who could possibly coach LA Galaxy next year, claims “His arrival has made a huge Impact.  Suddenly, people who before had no interest about soccer are folowing it.”  Klinsman has also been rumored to possibly coach Chelsea or Tottenham, two top English Premier League teams, in the near future.  Both teams are struggling with there management and Klinsmann played for Tottenham in the 1994-1995 season.  Klinsmann now lives in Newport Beach, CA.

Lalas fires back at Manchester United for Beckham
Posted on 09.11.07 by admin @ 10:37 am

beckhamchivas.jpg

About a week ago Sir Alex Ferguson, the manager of the English Premier team Manchester United, said Beckham would fail at trying to make soccer the most popular sport in America. Lalas fired back at and said he wanted Galaxy to be a super club that the whole world knows about. In order for Galaxy to be a super club they need to win first and then consistently win year after year. Lalas also said he wanted to attract other star players such as Figo, but why not make star players on his home turf?

Here is the original interview from the Daily Mail with Alexi Lalas:

David Beckham’s boss at LA Galaxy has hit back at claims by Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson that the midfielder will not be able to make ’soccer’ popular in the USA.

Ferguson last week claimed that Beckham would be unable to have much impact on American sporting tastes and would fail where Pele, Beckenbauer, Cruyff and others had failed in the past.

But LA Galaxy director of football Alexi Lalas insists that Beckham, who is currently injured, will help make the club one of the biggest in the world. He said: “We want to be a super club. We want anyone in London, Lisbon, Rio de Janeiro, Seoul, when they think of football to think of LA Galaxy. We want Galaxy to be the best.

“The main reason David Beckham came is the quality of the player. He came to compete at the highest level and to help us win. It’s important to have big names in order to attract attention and raise the level of play. It’s important to sign great players who are good on the field and have charisma away from it. It’s important to have that type of player to attract people.” He added that he one day hopes to bring veteran stars such as Inter’s Luis Figo and Benfica’s Rui Costa to join Beckham as part of the club’s intended development.

The former US international added: “You only have to see the new stadiums, the great players, the public. In a few years soccer can become the most important sport in America.

“Be it in a stadium of 20,000 people, or a dirt pitch around the corner, I adore football. I’m American, but I’m aware that I’m part of the world and on a worldwide scale it’s the most important sport, the one that brings the most people together. I like that a lot.” He believes that US football is already more competitive than European football in some respects. “We’re more competitive. In Europe there are always three or four clubs which win championships, have more money and the best players. Here, any team can win the league,” said Lalas.

Beckham invited to England Legends XI
Posted on 09.09.07 by admin @ 7:04 pm

Becks has been invited to play for the England Legends XI in December.  Becks should be healthy by then (check the projected injury time clock to the right=) ).  The England Legends team is an English all star team set to play against a world all star team for fund raising purposes.

Original article from Soccernet:

David Beckham has been offered the chance to play for an ‘England Legends’ XI in December as he bids to shake off his troublesome knee injury.

Beckham has not been at full fitness since playing through pain at the end of last season with Real Madrid and has been available only intermittently for both England and his new club Los Angeles Galaxy.

His withdrawal from the 3-0 Euro 2008 qualifying win over Israel at Wembley yesterday - and the clash with Russia which takes place on Wednesday night - has given Shaun Wright-Phillips the chance to stake his claim for the right-wing position.

But Beckham has already been offered the chance to represent his country again in a PFA XI coached by Terry Venables as they take on a World XI led by former England boss Sven-Goran Eriksson at the City of Manchester Stadium on December 2.

PFA chief executive Gordon Taylor said: ‘We have invited David, who is an ambassador in our centenary year, to play at the City of Manchester Stadium.

‘If he is available we would want him to play for the England Legends team.

‘But it all depends on the commitments his club in America, LA Galaxy, might have at that time.’

Beckham blogs about his injury
Posted on 09.07.07 by admin @ 8:26 pm

Becks posted this to his blog on Wednesday, I just forgot to add it. Here it is:

Last week was an incredibly frustrating one as far as football goes. To get back to fitness and then get injured again so quickly is very disappointing, but I’ll be doing everything I can to get back playing as soon as possible. I’ve started the rehabilitation process and I’m working hard to get back on the pitch again.
Of course, I’m disappointed that I won’t be joining up with the England squad, but I wish the lads all the best for the qualifiers.
There’s definitely enough quality to get the right results against Israel and Russia, and although I’m the first to admit I’m not the best armchair fan I’ll be cheering on the lads from home.
Anyway, that’s all for now. I’ll keep you posted on how things go with my recovery.

Speak to you soon

David

Beckham wants out of MLS for 4 months
Posted on 09.06.07 by admin @ 9:48 pm

I was watching the Chivas USA game and ESPN threw up a blurb that Becks wanted out of the MLS for 4 months to train in England for the Euro 2008 qualifiers. He would leave in the beginning of 2008 and come back around June 2008. The report also said that he would be willing to take a pay cut from his 250 million dollar contract.  This move would only be a loan, so nothing would be permanent.

I heard speculation of this from various news sources such as Sky Sports but nothing concrete has been set. I would not know what to think of this move but it frustrates me that he would need to train in England to get prepped for Euro 2008.

Manchester United says Beckham can’t succeed in America
Posted on 09.05.07 by admin @ 1:05 pm

Sir Alex Ferguson

In an article in the Daily Mail, a UK based paper, Alex Ferguson, the Manchester United Manager, claimed that Beckham will have no chance at making soccer a popular sport in the US.  Ferguson said it was because of the United States’ sheer size and export of young american talent to Europe that Beckham could not give soccer the desired popularity.   He also feels “Beckham will struggle to have the required impact on the field, the 31-year-old’s celebrity persona had overtaken his status as a sportsman following his marriage to Spice Girl Victoria.

Only time will tell…Pele, Cruyff, and Beckenbauer attempted to change American soccer in the 70’s and they couldn’t.  Soccer has changed since then (soccer stadiums, more respect etc.).  It is the most popular youth sport right now.  I think with the MLS’s solid business structure, broader interest from Beckham, and better overall American talent, the sport will keep on growing in popularity.

Beckham out for rest of Galaxy season
Posted on 08.30.07 by admin @ 11:00 pm

Beckham Knee Injury

On Wednesday night, David Beckham’s first MLS season with the LA Galaxy came to an early end. After a tackle with a player on Pachuca, Becks sprained his right medial ligament in his knee. This means that after playing only 310 minutes in six games at a guaranteed salary of $6.5 million per year, he will not be able to play in any more games for Galaxy in the 2007 MLS season, yet still make bank. He will also miss all of England’s Euro 2008 qualifiers. The estimated recovery time is about 6 weeks, pretty much the length of the rest of the MLS season with the exception of 3 games.

All in all for the true Galaxy supporters, this injury came at the right time. His ankle needed 3-4 weeks to properly heal, he won’t get another random injury in Euro 2008 qualifiers, his knee sprain is fully recoverable, and he will be 100% healthy for next season when Galaxy can get there upper-management sorted out. Its a shame he won’t play for England in the Euro qualifiers but he still has the actual Euro 2008 tourny next summer.
