Mr. Lalas has finally grown some balls and is following what clubs in Europe do with there injured players. He is not going to let Beckham play until he is 100% regardless of what Becks says. Major clubs in Europe will not play a player unless he is 100% healthy regardless of who the player is. “Just because David says he is healthy, that does not mean he is healthy. When we are confident that he is 100 per cent, physically and mentally, at that time we will see him on the field and not before.” said Lalas. Well Mr. Lalas follow the recommended injury time for a sprained knee, located on the right side of this page, and you will have Mr. Beckham good to go. Jurgen Klinsmann, the coach of the German 2006 World Cup Team and soccer legend, praised the impact of David Beckham in the United States. “It caused a stir with the kids and with youths even though the people weren’t really sure about the level of play in his club or in the league” said Klinsmann. He also said that Becks has had the desired ‘big bang’ effect on American soccer. Klinsmann, who could possibly coach LA Galaxy next year, claims “His arrival has made a huge Impact. Suddenly, people who before had no interest about soccer are folowing it.” Klinsman has also been rumored to possibly coach Chelsea or Tottenham, two top English Premier League teams, in the near future. Both teams are struggling with there management and Klinsmann played for Tottenham in the 1994-1995 season. Klinsmann now lives in Newport Beach, CA. About a week ago Sir Alex Ferguson, the manager of the English Premier team Manchester United, said Beckham would fail at trying to make soccer the most popular sport in America. Lalas fired back at and said he wanted Galaxy to be a super club that the whole world knows about. In order for Galaxy to be a super club they need to win first and then consistently win year after year. Lalas also said he wanted to attract other star players such as Figo, but why not make star players on his home turf? Here is the original interview from the Daily Mail with Alexi Lalas:

England beat Israel 3-0 without Becks. Shaun Wright-Phillips, Beckham’s replacement and Chelsea star, scored early and may give Beckham a run for the starting spot. Filed under: Athletic Life and David Beckham Comments: None |
Becks posted this to his blog on Wednesday, I just forgot to add it. Here it is: Last week was an incredibly frustrating one as far as football goes. To get back to fitness and then get injured again so quickly is very disappointing, but I’ll be doing everything I can to get back playing as soon as possible. I’ve started the rehabilitation process and I’m working hard to get back on the pitch again. Speak to you soon David Filed under: Athletic Life and David Beckham Comments: None |
I was watching the Chivas USA game and ESPN threw up a blurb that Becks wanted out of the MLS for 4 months to train in England for the Euro 2008 qualifiers. He would leave in the beginning of 2008 and come back around June 2008. The report also said that he would be willing to take a pay cut from his 250 million dollar contract. This move would only be a loan, so nothing would be permanent. I heard speculation of this from various news sources such as Sky Sports but nothing concrete has been set. I would not know what to think of this move but it frustrates me that he would need to train in England to get prepped for Euro 2008. Filed under: Athletic Life and David Beckham Comments: None |
In an article in the Daily Mail, a UK based paper, Alex Ferguson, the Manchester United Manager, claimed that Beckham will have no chance at making soccer a popular sport in the US. Ferguson said it was because of the United States’ sheer size and export of young american talent to Europe that Beckham could not give soccer the desired popularity. He also feels “Beckham will struggle to have the required impact on the field, the 31-year-old’s celebrity persona had overtaken his status as a sportsman following his marriage to Spice Girl Victoria. Only time will tell…Pele, Cruyff, and Beckenbauer attempted to change American soccer in the 70’s and they couldn’t. Soccer has changed since then (soccer stadiums, more respect etc.). It is the most popular youth sport right now. I think with the MLS’s solid business structure, broader interest from Beckham, and better overall American talent, the sport will keep on growing in popularity. David was recently interviewed by The Observer, a UK based newspaper, about his arrival in America. The article does a brilliant job of revealing Beckham’s feelings towards American soccer and comparing his life in Spain and England to now. Read it here. On Wednesday night, David Beckham’s first MLS season with the LA Galaxy came to an early end. After a tackle with a player on Pachuca, Becks sprained his right medial ligament in his knee. This means that after playing only 310 minutes in six games at a guaranteed salary of $6.5 million per year, he will not be able to play in any more games for Galaxy in the 2007 MLS season, yet still make bank. He will also miss all of England’s Euro 2008 qualifiers. The estimated recovery time is about 6 weeks, pretty much the length of the rest of the MLS season with the exception of 3 games. All in all for the true Galaxy supporters, this injury came at the right time. His ankle needed 3-4 weeks to properly heal, he won’t get another random injury in Euro 2008 qualifiers, his knee sprain is fully recoverable, and he will be 100% healthy for next season when Galaxy can get there upper-management sorted out. Its a shame he won’t play for England in the Euro qualifiers but he still has the actual Euro 2008 tourny next summer.
