David Beckham has had 99 appearances for his national team, and he was hoping to play in the Switzerland match to reach 100 caps, but Fabio Capello left him out of the game. Fabio Capello has signaled that David Beckham may play in future matches if he is up to par. “If he is fit and ready to play then he will be part of my team,” he said to CNN. In response to all the criticism he received from the media for leaving Beckham out of the Switzerland match (which England won 2-1), he said “It seems that the most important thing is whether I choose David Beckham. I think we should focus on England.” David Beckham is now back to pre-season training with Los Angeles Galaxy, but the MLS does not begin until 29 March, three days after England’s friendly against France in Paris. You can get Soccer Tickets to see the England-France match live from Lone Star Stubs. They’ve also got Olympic Soccer Tickets- too bad Beckham won’t play there eh? I heard it’s going to be huge! Oh and have you heard that the Spice Girls are leaving Australia out from their world tour? According to the media, the girls can’t wait to go back to their kids. I checked out Lone Star Stubs to see what’s left of their tour and yep.. it’s true.. it’s just the US and Canada folks! Believe it or not, England’s new manager Fabio Capello, did not call David Beckham for England’s friendly game against Switzerland scheduled to take place on the 6th of February at the New Wembley. This is the first game for England after the disastrous outcome in the Euro 2008 Qualifiers. It’s also the first match for Fabio Capello as a manager for Steven Gerard and hist mates. It seems that the Italian coach doesn’t like the new American Beckham. As you might know Capello coached Becks last season at Real Madrid and both won the La Liga title in a dramatic way, with Beckham having a great last part of the season. The former English captain had a poor shape during the mid part of the 2006-2007 season and Capello benched him right away. This had a big impact on Beckham signing with L.A. Galaxy in that period. Later on, as he improved his shape and helped Real to win the La Liga title, Real’s officials regretted parting with the English superstar and some blamed Fabio Capello for Becks departure in the US. The consequence was that the Italian coach was fired from the Spanish club although he won the title. The official explanation admitted by Capello is that Becks did not play an official game since late November as England lost 3 - 2 against Croatia in the Euro 2008 Qualifiers, with the Major Soccer League being in the off-season. David Beckham hoped to balance this, by training the whole winter with Arsenal, but it seems that England’s manager was not impressed. He added though that he will still give David a chance after he starts playing again. Becks left-out of England’s squad is even more painful as the former English captain hoped to reach 100 caps on Wednesday, as the 32-year-old midfielder counts 99 appearances for his national team. Ever since David Beckham left for LA Galaxy, Real Madrid has been struggling to find a replacement for him. They’ve already spent £44m on Wesley Sneijder and Arjen Robben, but aren’t happy with the results. Neither Dutchman is capable of replacing Beckham. So where will Real Madrid look next?
Florent Malouda at Chelsea?
Ronaldinho at Barcelona? Nani at Manchester United? Real Madrid maybe the richest club in the world, but that’s not going to bring Beckham back. Filed under: Athletic Life and David Beckham Comments: None |

Well Becks did not start the game as Croatia went up 2 nill. He came in the second half and assisted the tying goal only to have Croatia score in the last couple minutes to win. Because of this Steve McClaren, the England manager, was fired two days after the loss. On a side note, Becks is in Australia for a exhibition match with Galaxy against Sydney FC. Beckham was quoted before the game saying “I want to play in the next World Cup. That is a big goal for me and an enormous challenge, I believe I can do it. I wouldn’t say it if I didn’t mean it.” - The Sunday Mirror Filed under: Athletic Life and David Beckham Comments: None |
According to the times, Beckham is set to train with the EPL team Arsenal until February of next year. Becks assisted Edson Buttle off a free kick in the 7th min against the Minnesota Thunder in an exhibition match today. The game ended in a tie 1-1 and Galaxy won on penalty kicks. “Obviously if I can see those balls and play those balls, I know we have the players up front that can score goals,” Beckham said. Hmmm tying a USL team seems pretty suspect to me… Source: Yahoo Filed under: Athletic Life and David Beckham Comments: None |
Steve McClaren, the head coach of the England National team, recalled Beckham for the Euro qualifier vs. Croatia. He had been previously recalled and will play in a friendly against Austria next Friday for England.
